Encouragement of home ownership

Insured persons can withdraw the funds from their occupational pension funds in advance or hypothecate them in order to buy residential property for their own occupation. Advance withdrawal or mortgaging are permitted for the following purposes in this country and in other countries:

  • Purchase and construction of residential property
  • Repayment of mortgage loans
  • Acquisition of housing association share certificates or of similar shareholdings

Any advance withdrawal or mortgaging must relate to personal housing requirements. The residential property is said to be for personal requirements if used by the insured person at the latter’s abode or at the latter’s habitual place of residence. The funds in the occupational pension scheme may not be used to finance holiday apartments or second homes. Nor may the advance drawings be used for upkeep, for tax immediately accruing on the advance withdrawal or for notary and land registry fees.

The minimum amount which may be withdrawn in advance is CHF 20,000.00. An advance withdrawal may only be made every five years during membership of Livica. Moreover, advance withdrawals may only be made until the age of 62. In the case of married couples and registered same-sex partnerships, the request must be co-signed by the spouse or registered partner.

Our leaflet explains the options open to you as well as the methods and conditions regarding the use of your pension funds for home ownership. The request must be made in writing.
